A Lovely Little Park…

With all of the beautiful weather we’ve been enjoying lately, Little Lovely and I like to get outside and visit different parks around town. At this stage, we stick to the baby swing, but she seems to love seeing new places.

This week we ventured across the river to Cayce to check out the Granby Gardens Park, which features Cinderella’s pumpkin coach.

 Granby Gardens Park, Cayce

The backstory of this whimsical carriage is that it used to be displayed in front of the Howard Johnson on Knox Abbott Drive, and it became such a landmark for the community that when the motel was torn down, it was preserved and brought to the Cayce municipal complex.

There’s also a personal twist. When my mother and her family relocated from New York City to Columbia in the 1960’s, they actually lived at the famed Howard Johnson for a summer until their home was ready. I’ve heard many stories about her summer there swimming in the pool with her younger sister and playing on the carriage. I wanted Eloise to see a little piece from our family history. She had fun exploring, and we even got to swing.
