Little Lovely and I are always on the search for fun, new activities, so today we set out for City Roots, a 2.75 acre urban farm located near downtown.
Started in 2009 with a mission of providing sustainable and fresh produce for Columbia residents the farm now boasts a variety of more than 125 different fruits and vegetables as well as honey, eggs and flowers and is USDA Certified Organic.
South Carolina is currently in the peak of blueberry season, and City Roots invites the public to visit the farm, grab a basket and pick as many of the ripe, juicy berries as you can grab.
Eloise has berries for her breakfast most mornings, so she is well acquainted with the fruit and had no problem “helping” me pick and eat a few.
For $7 a pound this is a fun and inexpensive summer outing, and we can’t wait to enjoy the sweet bounty!
The “you pick” berry bushes are open Monday – Friday, 9 a.m.- 5 p.m. and 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Saturdays, and of course don’t miss their booth on Saturday mornings at Soda City.
Happy picking!
