I wonder what you’re doing right now,
And if everyone is treating you kind.
I hope there is a special person,
A nice friend that you can find.
I wonder if the teacher knows
Just how special you are to me.
And if the brightness of your heart
is something she can see.
I wonder if you’re thinking about me
And if you need a hug.
I already miss the sound of your voice
And how you give my leg a tug.
I wonder if you can possibly understand
How hard it is for me to let you grow
On this day, know that my heart breaks
For this is the first step in letting my baby go. -Unknown
Today our Little Lovely begins her journey as a prekindergarten student at Hammond School, a school so dear to me and my family. While I’m extremely excited for her to experience the nurturing, learning and wonder of being a Hammond student, part of me can’t believe that the time is already here.
As Eloise told me recently, “Mommy, don’t worry, I’m going to have so much fun at school, and you can hang out with Baby Barrett.” Wise words from my sweet girl.
Baby Barrett and I are enjoying special time together, and she will spend a few mornings a week in the nursery at Eastminster Day School. She is already loving her sweet teachers and new friends. I can’t wait to see how much she’ll grow this year!
Back to school is an exciting time but can also cause anxiety for mommies learning to let our little ones spend time away. This post from Her View From Home by a kindergarten teacher resonated with me, offering a different perspective of our children’s school day and how mommies are very much on their minds too.
I can’t wait to pick her up this afternoon and hear all about her first day. Until then, I’ll be rocking baby and trying not to miss my big girl too much. Hoping the the first day goes smoothly for all of the new students and anxious mommies out there!
She’ll do great today & is probably loving & soaking in every single moment. Hope you’re doing as well Emily! 😉
Thank you, Janie! I can’t wait to pick her up very soon and hear all about it:).
