“Oh it’s a jolly holiday with Mary
Mary makes your ‘eart so light!
When the day is gray and ordianry
Mary makes the sun shine bright!
Oh, ‘appiness is bloomin’ all around ‘er
The daffodils are smilin’ at the dove
When Mary ‘olds your ‘and
You feel so grand
Your ‘eart starts beatin’ like
A big brass band!
It’s a jolly holiday with Mary
No wonder that it’s Mary that we love!”-Richard and Roger Sherman
This weekend we celebrated our Little Lovely’s fourth birthday with a theme paying tribute to her idol, Mary Poppins! Eloise took a shine to the classic movie earlier this year and had her heart set on a birthday celebration with her favorite, magical nanny.
To set the tone for the party, I worked with Hunnybee Paperie to design the party invitations. She created some fun, Mary Poppins inspired Valentine’s for Eloise, so I knew she’d come up with something special.
Next was securing our guest of honor, Miss Poppins! We have worked with Rachel Hoover and Once Upon a Princess for the past three years, and this year’s character takes the cake. From her arrival to her farewell hugs, Mary was a delight. She charmed the little girls with surprises from her carpet bag, gave everyone a manners course and even handed out spoonfuls of sugar!
I loved planning all of the party details. Swirled Patina designed beautiful welcome and food signs featuring kites and umbrellas.
Sawdust Confetti created a whimsical front door sign, and we added a balloon arch with primary colors to highlight it above.
I found adorable penguin straws, kite banner, gift tags and Cherry tree lane sign from Funkissd.
Kites were the centerpiece of the party as we had a kite decorating station outside, so guests could customize their kite and then fly around the yard.
I also found a special kite set and personalized banner to hang from the dining room chandelier by RoyGBivs. It transformed our dining room into an enchanting setting for visiting with Mary Poppins.
While I’m not overly crafty, I did get the idea to make Poppins inspired bowler hats for all of the guests to wear. Finding supplies on Amazon and purchasing my first glue gun, Eloise and I had fun making the hats together, and the girls were able to take them home as favors.
Party snacks included kite and umbrella cookies by Sugar Columbia, who always does an amazing job, popcorn, Baby Bel-brellas, ice cream and a gorgeous and delicious strawberry cake by Izzabees Confectioneries who left no detail unattended- Eloise’s name was even included on the measuring tape.
Baby Barrett was festive for her first party sporting a Spoonful of Sugar ruffle onesie by Grace McMillan Designs, and Eloise’s mini Poppins ensemble is by My Little Margies.
When we asked Eloise her favorite part of the party, she said “being with my pals.” Watching her wonder and happiness was icing on the birthday cake, and we hope that all of her wishes come true this year!
