A Lovely Stay at Hotel Domestique…

“Will you come travel with me? Shall we stick together for as long as we live?” – Walt Whitman

Getting away as a couple is a luxury with little ones at home, so it was a treat to sneak out of town with my Valentine for a night away at the chic Hotel Domestique, which we had heard about for years.

Tucked away in Travelers Rest outside of Greenville, the property looks like it would be more fitting in the French countryside with scenic mountain views and Old World charm.

Inspired by legendary cyclist George Hincapie’s travels, Domestique is a mix of classic design and modern amenities. Upon check-in, we were warmly greeted with a glass of sparkling wine and made to feel at home.

Each of the spacious rooms is appointed with a fireplace, and we also enjoyed a beautiful view of the Blue Ridge Mountains in the distance. Since the inn is small, there is an intimate and peaceful feel. We settled in and then grabbed our books to sit in the main salon by the fire, stopping by the complimentary snack pantry for a drink along the way.

The highlight of the evening was Valentine’s dinner at the famed Restaurant 17 which offers a creative, European inspired menu bursting with local ingredients and flavors. The dining room was beautiful, and the service was excellent. Jody enjoyed oxtail ravioli and venison while I tried the heart salad and vegan mushroom bolognese. All were delicious, and we ended the meal with chocolate fondue and brown butter financier.

This morning we lingered over coffee in our room and then attempted some cycling on the complimentary Peloton bikes before heading to breakfast and then home.

My Valentine and I agree that the Hotel Domestique was the perfect getaway!
