A Lovely Little May…

“In the marvellous month of May when all the buds were bursting, then in my heart did love arise.” -Heinrich Heine

The month of May has been marvelous and very busy between finishing a kitchen renovation, celebrating birthdays and Mother’s Day, and a quick getaway to Charleston.

Birthday dinner with my best girl 🎂Dinner with wonderful friends 🍾 A special Mother’s Day celebrating my mother’s birthday too💗

This weekend we tried a new boutique hotel in the Elliotborough neighborhood of downtown Charleston, 86 Cannon. Run by a stylish couple, Liz and Marion, along with their two cockapoos, Sully and Gus, the charming spot offers five guest rooms in a fully renovated historic home built in 1860.

I was impressed with the gorgeous interiors and close attention to detail making our stay luxurious, including cocktail hour in the salon and specialty truffles from Christophe Chocolatier left in our room to ensure sweet dreams. We were well located near upper King St. and walked to brunch at the lively Rarebit followed by shopping at Skinny Dip Charleston {make sure to go upstairs to the cafe for some frose}. After meeting up with friends from out of town, we made our way to dinner at one of our favorites, Rue de Jean. A very fun evening!

Even a brief jaunt to Charleston is special, and we were ready to get home for Eloise’s first dance recital.

Hope your May has been marvelous!

A Lovely Little Flower Girl…

A little lady carries flowers

And brings a small bouquet.

She helps celebrate

A joyful wedding day.

She is a princess in her gown,

A picture come to life.

She brings such joy in helping

Become a man and wife.

This weekend, one of my oldest and dearest friends, Leah McKee, married the love of her life, and Eloise was asked to be a flower girl. For months we’ve talked about the big occasion and practiced walking slowly, smiling and sprinkling petals. All three flower girls were absolutely adorable as they successfully made their way down the aisle.

What made the wedding personally touching was the setting of the ceremony, The Dorothy Walker Memorial Chapel at Hammond School. Leah and I met in first grade at Hammond and spent twelve years there together building our strong friendship and thinking about our futures. Watching my childhood friend all grown up find her happiness is definitely the stuff of little girls’ dreams, and I know that one day my little girl will fondly recall this special event.

Best wishes, Mr. and Mrs. Wicevic!

A Lovely Spring Break…

“It’s spring fever. That is what the name of it is. And when you’ve got it, you want oh, you don’t quite know what it is you do want, but it just fairly makes your heart ache, you want it so!” – Mark Twain

This year, having spring fever coincided nicely with our family’s spring break, and we packed in events, outings and a beach trip into our week.

The break kicked off with a beautiful Easter weekend and some quality time with family and of course the Bunny.

My dress is by Devon Baer Design and Eloise’s pearl heirloom dress is from Posh Pickle.

We also had a special time taking Eloise to her first Disney on Ice performance and watching her eyes light up as her favorite princesses took to the ice.

The weather was perfect for outdoor activities, so we ventured to Cottle Strawberry Farm for berry picking and eating one afternoon and to Riverbanks Zoo for a morning visit before the crowds arrived.

Eloise’s adorable strawberry watercolor dress is by Little English and her bonnet is from The Beaufort Bonnet Company. Mid-week, we packed up and left town for some relaxation at Litchfield Beach. Although it was a little chilly, our Little Lovely was determined to play in the sand and water! I was grateful for taking long walks, taking in quiet sunrises and even taking time to finish a book, A Man Called Ove.

As an added treat, my mom and brother joined us for a few days. Eloise loved her time with Nonni and Uncle Dillon, and we even got to sneak away for a date night at the charming Caffe Piccolo in Pawleys Island.

My spring fever might not have completely subsided, but breaking from routine to enjoy family and make memories has us all feeling refreshed and recharged.

A Lovely First Day of Spring…

“It is spring again. The earth is like a child that knows poems by heart.” – Rainer Maria Rilke

Today marks the first official day of spring, and Little Lovely and I are ready for blooming flowers, the Easter Bunny, and spring break!

With Easter only a week away, I’ve been prepping Eloise’s basket and was recently introduced to a new, online children’s boutique in Columbia, Duck Duck Goose. This local business is owned by a lovely mother of two, Sarah Rama, and carries an adorable array of brands such as Lullaby Set, Pixie Lily, Petite Plume and others.

Check out their Instagram page to scroll and shop the latest looks and take advantage of some of their custom services:

We are quite fond of this darling pink gingham pajama set by Petite Plume and bunny eye mask. 🐰

A Lovely Little Bluff…

the river never broke a sweat.

it went for miles around us,

running in place

in search of a silent moon.

the darkness was her perfect partner,

leading them all

to the finish line,

where the morning

threw its hands up

as the winner of the race.

we stood on the sidelines,

rooting for time to suspend us,

staring down the clock

and knowing this was

not the end,

but the beginning of our journey

toward forever.

the running river by Marcus Amaker

Nestled on the northern bluff of Beaufort overlooking the May River, aptly named Bluffton is a charming coastal village that has grown in recent years to feature gourmet restaurants, boutiques and the beautiful Montage Palmetto Bluff resort, which was our weekend destination.

The area is special to us as it was the setting for our wedding ten years ago at Oldfield Plantation and now home to Jody’s family. In fact, Little Lovely was able to spend time with her cousins while we had a night away.

After checking into our guest house, we walked to Wilson Village and enjoyed an alfresco lunch at Buffalo’s overlooking the water before exploring the property.

We grabbed our books and a cocktail at the River House to enjoy the view and springlike weather.

From water sports to nature trails, there isn’t a shortage of recreational activities, and hopefully our next stay will be a little longer so we can take advantage of the award winning spa.

For dinner, we hopped on the shuttle and headed to the Canoe Club, a “river to table” restaurant offering sweeping views and local seafood.

After our meal, we found a spot by the fire pit to roast s’mores and look at the stars. A sweet ending to a relaxing day.

With our extra hour of daylight savings, we had time for a walk before meeting up with Eloise and her cousins for brunch at Cahill’s Market.

Hope you had a restful weekend too!

Lovely Lavender…

According to The Pantone Color Institute, ultra violet is the color of the year for 2018; however, fashion experts are pointing to the lighter hue of lavender trending on runways and the red carpet. A flower so representative of springtime is a fitting, pastel shade for the season. From gowns to nail polish, here are a few lavender items to try on this spring.
